Natural home of the Red Panda...
The red panda can be found in the temperate forests in the Himalayas. They live at altitudes of up to 1,800 - 4,000m. These high mountains that they inhabit tend to be filled with tons of deciduous forest along with bamboo, which is a very crucial part of the red pandas survival. They range through Bhutan, Nepal, India, Myanmar, and also the center of China. They are very often found in the trees, it is said that the reason their fur is the colour it is, is so they can blend in with the reddish moss that grown on the trees. However, due to the unfortunate decrease in the amount of bamboo, and mountain forest the red panda has been pushed into smaller, more isolated pockets of what used to be their original range of habitat. The red panda can also be found in captivity in a lot of different Zoos. The Zoos that are fortunate enough to have them take the very few in and attemp to mate them, in hopes that the red pandas population will slowly start to increase and not go extinct. Zoos such as the Denver Zoo were proud to celebrate the birth of three new baby red panda cubs, in hopes that this was just the starting point in the population increase.
